Who we are

For Flocks Sake Bird Rescue & Sanctuary officially began 2/27/26 but it’s makings were in progress even before that. Monica Hebert has a passion for birds and for giving them the best lives possible. After she and her husband began their bird journey with a little Sun Conure named Maria, the flock quickly grew. Their personal birds now include Marco, another Sun Conure, Charlotte, a Lesser Sulfur Crested Cockatoo, Amenadiel, a Catalina Macaw, Millie, an Umbrella Cockatoo, Dracarus, a Red-Lored Amazon hand fed from a baby, and the newest addition Flora, a Parakeet.

There have been other birds that joined along the way as owners were unable to keep the birds but wanted the best for them. Those became either sanctuary birds or rescue birds. The birds that will stay with the flock permanently and are not available for adoption are sanctuary birds. A bird is designated sanctuary either by the owner upon surrender (we will never rehome a bird someone has entrusted us to keep) or by our own judgement based on the needs of the bird.

Our rescue birds are those who we are entrusted with but that the owner is ok with going to a new home provided it is in the best interest of the bird. Prior owners who voluntarily surrender birds will always have a say in the placement of their birds. Sometimes birds will be in rescue to get them healthy again pending vet care and sometimes they are almost immediately ready for new homes.

Every situation is unique and given the utmost attention it deserves just as every bird is unique and deserves the most individual care possible. We provide each and every bird, whether ours or the Flock’s, a healthy diet of chop, premium pellets, and treats, appropriately sized living quarters, proper enrichment, and of course plenty of interaction and love!
